Zenith, the height of high frequency

Zenith El Primero A384 Revival Blog

Since 1865, the values of authenticity, boldness and passion have guided Zenith as it tirelessly pushes back the boundaries of excellence, accuracy and innovation. Founded in Le Locle by watchmaker Georges Favre-Jacot, the brand soon became a rising star of extremely accurate chronometry. Since it shot to fame with the legendary El Primero, the watch manufacturer has developed over 600 movement variants.

Zenith is now bringing thrilling new possibilities to timekeeping, such as the 1/100th of a second display presented on the Defy El Primero 21. Fuelled by the drive to break fresh ground, Zenith is shaping the future of Swiss watchmaking as well as its own.

El Primero Collection

Last year, the legendary El Primero high-frequency chronograph celebrated half a century of groundbreaking design and accuracy since it was first presented to the public on 10 January 1969. El Primero was the first ever self-winding chronograph and its accuracy revolutionised the fine watchmaking industry. Today this piece has earned definitive cult status.

Incorporating innovative features like a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, a fully integrated construction with a column wheel, a central rotor on ball bearings, and a 50-hour autonomy, it became the most accurate chronograph in the world and the only one able to measure short time intervals in tenths of a second.

Housed in an imposing 44 mm titanium case is a revolutionary mechanical movement that oscillates at a frequency of 360,000 vibrations per hour (50 Hz) – ten times faster than its predecessor. It can measure hundredths of a second, displayed on a graduated flange marked from 1 to 100. Aesthetically, the timepiece’s skeletonised dial and contemporary lines give it an exclusive and dynamic signature.

The exceptional jewellery of Sansen & Gangi

Sg Rana Web 1

Maison De Greef regularly works with the highly experienced Belgian jewellers Sansen & Gangi to create our unique pieces. While their work often takes place behind the scenes, this summer the creative duo is showcasing their own creations in-store and online for the first time, especially for Farniente.

Gem-setting requires strength, flexibility and precision. A beautiful setting is invisible. My role is to optimise the jewel's movement while understanding the stones, their properties and their resistance.

— Olivier Gangi

Renowned for their expertise of long-forgotten and particularly complex jewellery techniques, the two Liège-based craftsmen reveal the full extent of Belgium's creativity. Cédric Sansen is the jewellery maker; he reassesses every technique and unleashes the full potential of his craft. He has intimate knowledge of working gold and its alloys. Olivier Gangi is the gem-setter; he searches out the perfect lines to create movement and dynamism.

Sansen & Gangi's creations break with the norm. They are genuine jewellery sculptures inspired by nature. With their plant and animal motifs, these works of art cleverly blend colours, materials and paving techniques.

I always file by hand. The minuscule imperfections that might appear on a ring are almost invisible, but they are what gives the piece character and soul. They become our unique touch, a way of distinguishing ourselves from the mass production that is becoming standard today.

— Cédric Sansen

Extensive gem-setting, meanwhile, helps to accentuate the piece’s sense of volume. Every creation in the Rana collection is an enchanted object that never fails to surprise and amuse, fully expressing your imagination.

The Poison Ivy collection produces unique bouquets that let the imagination run wild. The use of rubies, coral and opals is original and creates an explosion of colours. The mixed metals and gem-setting emphasise every element of these works of art.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris, inventiveness in search of elegance

Polaris Chronographin Teel

Deep in the Vallée de Joux on the Swiss Jura border, Jaeger-LeCoultre has continually presented ever more creative and inventive pieces since 1833. Their elegant sophistication is set apart by a constant balancing act between technical prowess and aesthetic harmony. Since the beginning, the brand has developed over 1,200 calibres, earning it a unique reputation in the watch industry today.

The sporty elegance of Polaris

At the 2018 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, Jaeger-LeCoultre presented the Polaris collection – a new men's line blending watchmaking expertise and sporty elegance.

The collection’s features and spirit take inspiration from one of the brand's cult watches: the 1968 Polaris Memovox diver's watch, a sporty timepiece made iconic by its chime function. Known as “the voice of memory”, this Memovox function was originally intended to remind divers that it was time to return to the surface.

Polaris Automatic

The extremely reliable Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection is designed to accompany urban adventurers. Its timepieces are sure to appeal thanks to their numerous functions including date, alarm, chronograph and World Time chronograph.
